At Charity Home we accommodate girls from very backward families
giving them food, clothing and education free of charge.
Poverty and unemployment are the greatest problems in India. The per
capita income of the average person in India is very small and many people
live under the poverty level. Daughters are normally considered a burden,
and hence, are neglected. Many are not sent to school, being forced to labor
12 hours per day for a meager sum.
To give meaningful lives to such girls, Charity Home for Children
was established in 1986 with eight girls. Now, we have 50 girls. They are
either orphans or semi-orphans. All of them come from poverty-stricken
families who cannot afford to provide for them. To make matters worse, many of
these families are affected by the evils of liquor and drugs.
All the girls of Charity Home are given a chance to complete high
school. After graduation, they are given vocational training such as tailoring
and paramedical courses.
We give sewing machines to those who completed the tailoring course so
they can make a living of their own. We have already provided 12 such
machines. Each machine costs about $75.00. The girls who choose paramedical
courses such as Lab-Technician training or X-Ray training are employed in
hospitals with satisfactory remuneration. There are six such girls currently working
in different hospitals.
Advanced students are sent for higher studies. They attend two more years
in the school and then pursue nursing courses. We have educated five such
girls who are employed in hospitals. Two of our girls went to college for
higher studies. One of them, after receiving her Bachelor degree is working as
a teacher. Another has just completed her Masters degree, while another
is studying for B. Sc. (Nursing). Some of our girls go on to marry.
Every year we celebrate Christmas in Charity Home, and all the girls
are given some material gift which will be useful to them. Mrs. Spurgeon
(pictured below) leads this ministry.
We invite you to support a girl in Charity Home. To do so, we need a
minimum of $12.00 per month. Use the support link below to find out how you can
send a check to Charity Home and support one of these wonderful young ladies!
