Vijayakumar (Viji) is the son-in-law of Dr. D. S. Spurgeon, founder of Light of Hope Mission. He is married to Dr. Spurgeon's daughter Gigi. They have one daughter, Nesha.
Viji was born and raised in the Hindu dominated city of Madurai, Tamilnadu, known as the Temple City. He holds a Masters degree in business and has held several prestigious positions in the travel and airline industries. In 1995, he resigned his position as marketing manager of an airline in order to dedicate his life to full-time ministry to the gospel of Jesus Christ. "I preach the love of Jesus Christ among the public and work for their awakening and salvation. I am concerned with reaching the unreached and helping the poorest of the poor in our society."

Viji studied at Crichton College, Memphis, Tennessee, during the school year 1995-96. During this time, he realized he knew little of the Bible though he was born into a Christian family and was a regular church-goer. This awakening gave him the burden of revealing God's word to his people. After his return from America, his intention was to establish a Bible College through which to teach the Bible to his people in clear terms. Initially, God led him through many struggles and difficulties until he found God's will for the Bible College project.

Though Viji remains very busy with the ministry of Light of Hope Mission, his present project is completing the Light of Hope Retreat and Learning Centre. Initially, the Lord provided through Christ for the World, inc., a mission organization based in Orlando, Florida. This organization purchased for LHM, 2 acres forested with coconut, neam, and teak trees. Also, they provided construction funding for the first building (see photo). India is one of the largest functioning democratic nations. It is the second most populous nation in the world (exceeding 1.2 billion). With its abundant mix of religions, languages, and ethnic groups, India has tremendous spiritual needs. Only 2.5% of Indians consider themselves Christians. India needs Christ! Revival is required in the Church. Christians must be filled with zeal for Jesus and have a heart for sharing the gospel.
With this in mind, the goal of LHM Retreat and Learning Centre is to train Christians who have the zeal and heart to work for the Lord. Hence, Viji's goals are to:
· Educate Christian workers to correctly understand and soundly apply the word of God.
· Equip them as able servants for the ministry.
· Produce evangelists to spread the gospel to all nations.

A team of gospel workers supported by LHM is evangelizing among remote villagers in an area comprised of 2360 villages containing about 5000 persons each. At present we are able to take the gospel to the uneducated, poor and non-Christian villagers in 30 select villages. It is our prayer to reach the remaining villages through supporting additional village gospel workers. One such worker can be supported for $50.00 per month to LHM. When a group of villagers accept Jesus, we arrange to provide regular worship for these new Christians. We have to provide the facilities for such worship. Construction of church buildings becomes necessary in such places. Click here if you would like to support this ministry.

At present, LHM is extending financial support to five independent church workers in smaller towns in our state. The aim is to encourage such independent workers and motivate them to work vigorously in their respective places. Viji visits these churches at regular intervals to teach and preach.
